About

Of Celtic Pride Kennel

We are a small, four membered family who lives in a small town in Croatia, called Osijek. We have met with Irish Wolfhounds back in 1990.,when we got our first grey brindle male Wolfhound puppy named Saab.

My father was the one who has found a litter of Irish Wolfhounds here in Osijek and the litter was from first Croatian breeder named Davorka Šuvak. This litter was large, there were 17 puppies born and one of them was our little Saab.

So, as time passed we fell in love with him and the whole breed itself. Then when Saab was yearling, I was born… Saab has teached me how to walk and helped my parents a lot in raising me and I have loved him very much and loved to spend time with him. He has been a great dog who has returned our infinite love to him and lived for 12 years which is very much for Irish Wolfhounds in general. When he passed away we were all devastated… It was like losing a great part of your family… We have told ourselves that this was a great loss and that we can't afford us loosing another one, so we have decided to live without IW's… Everybody who has had a Wolfhound knows that this decision was impossible!!! And after this my little sister Megan was born and this was a thing which has encouraged us to move on…

And then when we thought that we have got over Saab, my father and I went to INTERZOO pet fair in Nurnberg, and saw there a 9 year old fawn red female from Germany, we saw the same beautiful look in her eyes like our Saab used to have… So we have decided to have another one… I have learned a lot about Wolfhounds and studied the breed as my father did before…

Then in 2004. we got our second grey brindle male from Czech Republic from breeder Michaela Karaskova named EGO MAKARIKARI… He is our first showing dog, we have never thought of showing at all but I was told by one judge that Ego is good for showing and I have said to myself WHY NOT? Since then we have started showing and it was when Ego was a 10 months old pup. After that we have decided to have another one and it was a female this time…We have wanted to have a lightly colored IW, so after a long search of a kennel which has beautiful wheaten or fawn red pups we have found one in Moscow, Russia… Her name is YUNKALY IZ VOLSHEBNOGO LESA and  she is a fawn red female bred by Irina Kiryushina from well known IZ VOLSHEBNOGO LESA kennel … We have been to many shows with both of them and won a lot of prizes there.. Now they are both beautiful hounds… We have decided to start breeding with our Gentle giants…

And here we are now, after gaining a lot of experience by meeting other breeders and exchanging thoughts and experiences with the breed, reading a lot of books and most important of all, living, loving and caring about our Wolfhounds we are starting our own kennel to improve the whole breed and make a line of our own dogs… We love to love, show and take care of our Wolfhounds in the way they deserve… We live in a house of 650 m2 and we have a big backyard in which our wolfhounds love to run, play and live… We are now a very happy family with four beautiful wolfhounds galloping through our backyard and waiting for more of them to come!!!

The thing that every future owner of the breed must know is an our little saying here in Osijek: ONCE A WOLFHOUND, ALWAYS A WOLFHOUND which means that once you have a Wolfhound you will never get any other breed!!!! We love to meet people who are in love with this breed in the way we are and we would be more than happy to welcome you in our home here in Osijek!!
